Washington:The Indian American Muslim Mujtaba Mohammed entered the North Carolina State Senate from the Senate District 38. A former staff attorney at the Council for Children’s Rights and assistant public defender, Mohammed defeated Richard Rivette.

“The Democrats of Senate District 38 elected their next state senator Tuesday, May 8th and I am honored to serve you. We are not waiting until January to get to work. Over the coming months, my team and I will work hard to flip the GOP majority right here in Mecklenburg County. Our team will sit with members of our city council, county commission, school board and various appointed boards and commissions to set a legislative agenda. We will get our house in order and then build on our relationships. We can no longer operate in silos. Each branch of government is dependent upon the other and it’s going to take ALL of us, working together to ensure success and economic mobility for our families. Our work has just begun. Together, we are going to turn Mecklenburg County Blue” wrote Mujtaba Mohammed in his website after winning the election.
