New Delhi, April 7: Jamiat Ulama Maharashtra (Arshad Madani) has sent relief materials worth Rs 2 lakh for the victim families of the building collpase in Thane district of Maharashtra. On Thursday, a seven-story building had collapsed killing at least 74 people and wounding dozens. Jamiat has also sent materials for funerals of the dead bodies. Jamiat president Maulana Arshad Madani has condoled the death and expressed deep sympathy with victim families.
Soon after the incident on Thursday, local leaders of Jamiat rushed to the site in Mumbra area of Thane district and got involved in rescue and relief operation along with the administration and social activists. Jamiat Ulema Mumbra president Maulana Shafiqur Rahman Nadwi and general secretary Mufti Abdul Basith Qasmi and their team along with others removed debri to rescu the survivors, they rushed the wounded to the hospital.
A day later, at the direction of Jamiat Ulama Maharashtra general secretary Maulana Halimullah Qasmi, Jamiat legal cell head Gulzar Ahmed Azmi sent a team with relief materials.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra police have arrested nine men for the collapse of the seven-storey building and they all have been sent to 14 days police custody today. The nine include Thane Municipal Corporation’s suspended deputy municipal commissioner Deepak Chavan, assistant municipal commissioner Babasaheb Andhale, corporation clerk Kiran Madke, Nationalist Congress Party corporator Hira Patil, policeman Sayyed and estate agent Jabbar Patel who worked for Chavan.
