Days after the custodial death of 21-year-old Altaf, Uttar Pradesh reported one more death due to torture in police custody. A man identified as Jitendra Srivastava died on Monday hours after he returned home from Panki Police Station in Kanpur.
His family alleged that he was severely tortured in police custody. According to them, there were blue marks on his body and had suffered internal injuries. He was admitted to Kanpur’s Hallett Hospital. But he died late on Monday night.

He was taken for interrogation by the police on 13 November, in connection with a theft case. A resident of his neighbourhood, YS Dixit, had filed a complaint against him, accusing him of stealing Rs 20 lakh.

Instead of initiating a probe against policemen, a case has reportedly been registered against Dixit in connection with Srivastava’s death.
