Journalist Fahad Shah was granted bail by a court in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian distirct but was re-arrested in another case on Saturday.
Granting him bail, Sayeem Qayoom, the Shopian magistrate said “In a barbaric society you can hardly ask for bail, in a civilized society you can hardly refuse it. In other words, ‘bail is a rule and its refusal is an exception’.”
Fahad was arrested on 4 February 2022 by Pulwama police under anti-terror law and sedition charges in connection with a news report. He was granted bail in the case by a special court under after 22 days, on 26 February. Then he was arrested by Shopian police and was granted bail on Saturday.
Now he has been arrested by the Srinagar police in a case (FIR 70/2020) against under sections 147, 307, 109, 501, 505 of Indian Penal Code. The case was registered over the reporting of The Kashmir Walla, a web portal founded by Shah, in May 2020.
