Lucknow/New Delhi, May 29: The family of Khalid Mujahid today refused to accept the compensation check worth Rs 6 lakh. Uttar Pradesh cabinet minister Parasnath Yadav accompanied with Jaunpur DM and SDO had gone to deceased Mujahid’s home in Mariahu village to hand over the check announced three days back by chief minister Akhilesh Yadav. Mujahid died in mysterious circumstances in police van on 18th May while returning from Faizabad court to Lucknow jail.
Talking to Muslim Mirror over phone, Maulana Zaheer Alam Falahi, uncle of Mujahid and head of the family, said he did not accept the check as he thought it would be insult to the soul of his nephew who was killed by the system of the government.
“We cannot accept compensation check as no check can compensate the life of our nephew. Cabinet minister of Akhilesh government Parasnath Yadav, who hails from Jaunpur, District Magistrate and SDO had come to my home two hours ago. They were insisting to accept the check saying the CM has promised fair inquiry will be conducted into Mujahid’s death. We refused to accept the check saying almost four times of the amount our family and the community have spent on the false terror case in last five and half years. Mujahid has not got justice, no culprits have been arrested. It would be disrespect to the blood of Shaheed Mujahid if I accept the check,” said Maulana Zaheer Alam Falahi.
He reiterated his demand to suspend and arrest the police officers named in the FIR filed by him in connection with the killing of Mujahid.
Khalid Mujahid was a resident of Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh. He was picked in Dec. 2007 for the court blasts of the same year in the state. The government appointedRD Nimesh Commission had enquired into his arrest and found it as illegal and fake. Following the report, the family and human rights activists demanded release of Khalid Mujahid. In last two weeks, the state government had given indication of his release. But on 18th May he died in mysterious circumstances in police van when he was being brought from Faizabad court to Lucknow jail.
“How can I accept the check from the government which has not yet made public the findings of the RD Nimesh Commission which absolved our nephew of any charge over six months ago,” said Maulana Falahi.
He also demanded immediate release of Mujahid’s co-accused Hakeem Tariq Qasmi and two others. He informed Muslim Mirror that the minister said chief minister Akhilesh Yadav and Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Ssingh Yadav wanted to visit his home.
“I told the minister that my home is open for all. If the CM and his father Mulayam Singh want to come they can, I have no objection. I will put the issue before them and reiterate our demands,” Maulana Falahi said.
