Jamia Markaz, one of the prominent Islamic Universities in India here, organised the largest Quran prayer gathering in the country.
Popularly known as the Dawratul Qur’an, it is a unique Quran recitation campaign initiated by Sheikh Abubakr Ahmad, the Grand Mufti of India and chairman and patron of Markaz institutions across India to mould the people who believe in the Quran more associated with the holy book.
Thousands of regular campaign members complete the Qur’an recitation quarterly the year and gather in Markaz in four months for prayers.
A particular campaign announced a week ago called for the completion of the Holy Qur’an recitation 4444 times from hundreds of students and Muslims from Kerala.
The campaign has been announced as a tribute to Sheikh Abubakr Ahmad, who has moulded hundreds of Quran learning academies, thousands of Qur’an-memorized students and winners in international Holy Qur’an awards. The prayer congregation has been organised specially for Sheikh, who was hospitalised two weeks ago due to blood pressure variations.
The congregation started at 5:00 pm, and Markaz President Sayyid Ali Bafakhi Thangal led the prayers. Prominent Sunni leaders, scholars, thousands of students and believers participated in the event.
Some news outlets are reporting that Muslim women are burning hijab publicly in Kozhikode to show support to the Iranian women.
