New Delhi: Literature nurtures imagination, science underlines objectivity said Prof. Talat Ahmad, Vice-Chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia.
Addressing the Valedictory Session of 5-day Orientation Programme for Urdu Teachers of Jamia Schools, JMI conducted by Academy of Professional Development Urdu Medium Teachers (APDUMT), Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), the Vice Chancellor underscored the importance of school level education as this was the foundation for higher learning, particularly the teaching of literature. He said that laboratories have no scope to nourish our power of imagination which is vital for creative works like poetry, etc. however; in laboratories objectivity remains our main concern.
Prof. Ghazanfar Ali, Director, APDUMT, JMI delivered welcome address. He also tabled a thorough report of Academy’s achievement so far. In his welcome address, he put emphasis on applying new methods of teaching in class rooms. Further, he added that Urdu people put a lot of efforts in nourishing the Urdu literature whereas they are paying less attention to new methods of teaching. He urged for applying the new teaching methods so that they may be able to serve the Urdu language in a better way.
Prof. Ahrar Husain, Dean, Faculty of Education, JMI, Chief Guest of the Valedictory Session, applauded the performances and accomplishments of the Academy and added that there are three Urdu Academies across the country, out of three only Jamia Urdu Academy is actively conducting the academic programs. Furthermore, he said that goal of understanding literature could be achieved only by effective language teaching.
13-Urdu teachers of Jamia School participated in the Orientation Programme. The different topics of Urdu language and literature covered in the programme are – Teaching of Urdu Script, Teaching of Urdu Pronunciation, Teaching of Urdu Grammar, Written Communication Skill, Teaching of Elegy, Methods of Education Terminology, Methods of Lesson Plan, Principles of Translation, Introduction of Poetic Genres, Introduction of Fiction Genres, Introduction of Non-Fiction Genres, Socio-Psycho Problems of Urdu, Curriculum, History of Urdu Language, Teaching and Training, Information Technology, Technique of Improvement in Examination, Relations of Science, culture and Literature, etc.
The Valedictory Session was hosted by Dr. Wahid Nazeer who also presented the detailed report of the programme. Few participants expressed their views regarding Orientation Programme. Dr. Hina Afreen, Programme Coordinator, thanked the audience. A large number of people were present on this occasion.
