New Delhi: The fate of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in retail sector in India will be decided today by the Lok Sabha – the Lower House of Indian Parliament. Besides the Opposition BJP, some allies of ruling UPA are dead against the FDI in retail sector, saying it will harm the interest of farmers and small shopkeepers across the country.
Samajwadi Party, which is ruling India’s largest state Uttar Pradesh, is giving outside support to Congress-led UPA but its role on this issue will be most important or better decide the fate of both UPA and FDI.
SP’s move is not clear as its chief Mulayam Singh Yadav yesterday argued against government’s decision to allow 51 per cent foreign direct investment in multi-brand retail.
