Maharashtra: FIR against Times Now anchor Navika Kumar over prophet insult row

By Muslim Mirror Staff

Times Now anchor Navika Kumar has been booked for maliciously intending to outrage religious feelings. This comes three weeks after suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma made insulting remarks against Prophet Muhammad on a TV debate show hosted by Navika.

The FIR has been registered on a complaint filed by a Muslim cleric at the Nanalpet police station in Maharashtra’s Parbani district. In the FIR, Nupur Sharma has also been named.

Times Now has distanced itself from Nurpur’s remarks. “We urge participants on our debates to maintain restraint and not indulge in unparliamentary language against fellow panelists,” the channel said in a statement.

Nurpur’s remarks have sparked an international outrage. Several Muslim countries have condemned the same and some of them have sought an apology from the government of India.

In a statement, Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, a forum of 57 Muslim countries, said that such cases of defamation are part of a growing spate of hatred and systematic practices against Indian Muslims
