Mehbooba nominates senior PDP functionaries ahead of panchayat polls

Jammu : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday nominated senior functionaries of her party ahead of the Panchayat elections in the state.

In a statement issued here, PDP Vice President Muhammad Sartaj Madni said that she has nominated Mohammad Dilawar Mir, Ved Mahajan, Mehboob Iqbal and Peerzada Mansoor Hussain as General Secretaries of the party, while Rafi Ahmad Mir was named as the party’s Chief Spokesman.

“Mehboob Iqbal, in addition to his responsibility, will hold the charge of District President Doda till further orders. Peerzada Mansoor Hussain shall be in charge central Kashmir,” he added.

The decision is believed to have been taken to activate the party rank and file at the grassroots level ahead of the panchayat elections which Mufti had announced would be held after February 15.

The Chief Minister has also said that urban bodies elections would be held after the panchayat elections. The last panchayat elections were held in J&K in 2011 while the urban bodies elections, including those to municipal committees and corporations, were held in 2005.
