Jamiat Ulema-i-Hind president Maulana Mahmood Madani, along with other Muslim leaders, mulled over the possibility of taking a united stand on different issues concerning the community in a “discreet meeting” held in Delhi.

While the meeting was kept away from the media galore, sources privy to the parleys confided that the organization, of late, has run into severe “trust deficit” in the wake of its stands over a slew of issues. The sources also underlined that a hard-hitting piece published recently in a section of press highlight the “dubious role” of the organization in “extending tacit support” to the government on banning Popular Front of India (PFI). The Muslim-managed outfit was outlawed by the Union government following two rounds of raids across the country.

Among those who participated were Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Syed Saadatullah Hussaini, Vice Ameer Jamaat Aminul Hasan, Head of  Central Jamaat Ahl-e-Hadith  Maulana Ali Asghar Imam Mahdi Salafi,  former president of AIMMM Dr. Zafarul Islam Khan, Mahmood Alam represented his father Dr. Manzoor Alam, the general secretary of All India Milli Council who  could not participate due to illness. Apart from them, President of Welfare Party of India Dr. Qasim Rasool Ilyas, Member of Parliament of Muslim Personal Law Board Farooqui and Niaz Farooqui etc. are also present in the discussion.

The All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat (AIMMM) president Navaid Hamid was not invited  in this meeting . According to the sources, this is due to the recent controversies of the Mushwarat. The organizations which are a part of the Mushwarat, however, were a present at the meeting.

Since the BJP government came to power in 2014 Madanis are blamed for hobnobbing with the saffron party and siding with it on Muslim issues. Mahmood Madani supported government on 370 and CAA. Madanis silence over the  ban on PFI ban is being seen as  tactical support to the government. The recent meeting with  Muslim leaders is an interesting development in a time when Madanis and Jameeatul Ulema-i-Hind are facing all time low credit deficit in community.
