In the wake of growing outrage in the Muslim world, India’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) suspended its spokesperson Nupur Sharma and expelled her colleague Naveen Kumar Jindal in connection with their insulting remarks against Prophet Muhammad.

The BJP condemned the remarks on Sunday. In a press release, it said, “Bharatiya Janata Party respectsall religions. The BJP strongly denounces insult of any religiouspersonalities of any religion.”

Later, the party released orders suspending Nupur Sharma and expelling Naveen Jindal. Sharma was a national spokesperson for the party while Jindal led the party’s Delhi media unit.

The former had insulted Prophet Muhammad during a TV debate show while the latter had made derogatory remarks in a tweet, which he deleted following an outrage.

Their remarks triggered an anger among Muslims, particularly those living in the Arab world. Several hashtags in Arabic were trending in connection with the same.

Following her suspension, Sharma withdrew her words. In a tweet, she said, “”I had been appearing on TV debates where Lord Shiva was being insulted every day. In anger, I said something. If my words have hurt anyone’s religious sentiments, I withdraw them. My intention was not to hurt anyone.”

  1. In Hindu majority country, when Hindu insults another religion, she is expelled from the party. When minority leader Akbaruddin Owaisi insults Lord Ram & his mother in public meeting, he is not expelled from AIMIM. He is enjoying freedom in a Hindu majority country. This is a fundamental difference between Hindus & Muslims.
