In reaction to India’s earlier statement that Pakistan was harbouring the 9/11 mastermind Osama bin Laden, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday.

“(I want to tell India) that Osama bin Laden is dead, but the butcher of Gujarat lives and he is the Prime Minister of India,” Bhutto said.

“He (PM Modi) was banned from entering this country until he became the Prime Minister. This is the Prime Minister of the RSS and the Foreign Minister of the RSS. What is the RSS? The RSS takes inspiration from Hitler’s ‘SS’,” the Pakistan FM said in New York.

External Affairs Minister of India, S Jaishankar spoke to the media at a UN stakeout site just before Bhutto’s briefing, repeating his Wednesday night UN Security Council remarks in which he charged Pakistan with “hosting Osama bin Laden.”

He also addressed Wednesday’s comments by Pakistan Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar, who referred to India as “the largest perpetrator of terrorism” in Islamabad.

Jaishankar stated that Khar’s comments made him think of the more than ten years ago visit to Islamabad by the then US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who reminded Pakistan that “if you have snakes in your backyard, you cannot expect them to bite only your neighbours.”

He claimed that Pakistan was “not great at listening to good advice … and now look what’s happening there. Today, it’s the epicentre of terrorism … and has its fingerprints over a lot of activities in the region and beyond”.

“How long Pakistan intends to practice [terrorism] and hide it by taking that debate elsewhere? Please clean up your act. Please try to be a good neighbour,” Jaishankar said.

A reporter questioned Bhutto-Zardari about the conflict between the Indian and Pakistani foreign ministers at his press conference.

“This is not in a war of words. I have not noticed,” the minister said. He continued by stating that he had been a victim of terrorism as his mother and thousands of other Pakistanis had been killed by terrorists.

“We have lost far more lives to terrorism than India did,” said Bhutto said.

According to Bhutto, “India has been playing in the space” that has made it “very easy” to bracket Muslims with terrorism. “India has very skilfully blurred this line, making like us all terrorists who are actually victims.”

The foreign minister of Pakistan stated that not only Pakistanis but also Muslims in India have been subjected to continual indoctrination by India into this philosophy.

In an important session held under India’s Presidency of the 15-nation Council, Bhutto brought up the Kashmir issue during the UN Security Council Open Debate on “Maintenance of International Peace and Security: New Orientation for Reformed Multilateralism.”

  1. “A New Low Even For Pakistan” is the Headline in India. Of course, MM has no interest in posting that. Nor is it interested in reminding Mr. Zardari of the carnage his grandfather unleashed on the people of what was then East Pakistan. Mr. Zardari’s DNA manifests itself in his irrationality. Watch out, World; someday the man is likely to hold the trigger of a nuclear arsenal.
