Muslim groups held a protest outside the Indian consulate in in Chicago, US against insulting remarks on Prophet Muhammad by members of India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). They demanded strict action against individuals involved in attacks on Islam and Muslims in India.
The protest was joined by scores of non-Muslims residing in nearby neigbourhoods. They also expressed their solidarity with the Muslim community being subjected to atrocities in India.
The protest site was reverberating with the slogans of “Labbaik Ya Rasool Allah” and “La illaha illallah muhammadur rasulullah” on this occasion [We are here for you O’ messenger of Allah and There is god but Allah and Muhammad is his messenger].
Addressing the crowd, activist Dr Qutbuddin said that Muslims can tolerate everything but they cannot tolerate any kind of insult to their prophet. He read Allama Iqbal’s couplet:
Ki Muhammad Se Wafa Tune To Ham Tere Hain,
Ye Jahan Cheez Hai Kya Loh-o-Qalam Tere Hain
Dr Khursheed Mallick, president of Chicago-based human rights group Justice for All, said, “we not only condemn the insult to our prophet but we also demand strict action against the culprits.”
Abdullah Mitchell, executive director of a Muslim group named as CIOGC said, “Now is the time for Muslims to stick to their religion and pour tireless efforts to protect Islam and sanctity of the prophet.”
The event was also addressed by activists, Shahnawaz Khan and Irshad Khan.
The speakers called on the US government to exert pressure on the Indian administration to stop persecution of Muslim citizens.
I don’t expect the IAMC to understand it or respect it; but here it is – “the American way”.
