A farmer in Punjab died by hanging himself with a tree as he was upset over the Lakhimpur Kheri incident. Paramjit Singh (50), as claimed by the family, was an active participant of the ongoing agitation against three farm laws passed by the parliament.
The suicide note, authenticity of which was yet to be ascertained, stated he was ending his life as he was upset over Lakhimpur incident and the government’s attitude towards the demand for withdrawal of the three farm laws. He is survived by three children and his wife.
At least eight persons including a journalist died, four of whom were mowed down by the car of federal minister Ajay Mishra’s son. The incident was condemned by opposition leaders and human rights activists.
