Ranchi :In a shocking incident of custodail death , a 23-year-old  Muslim youth has died in  police station lock-up in Ranchi on Friday.

According to the police, Nesar Ansari was arrested on charges of theft on Tuesday. He was lodged in the police station lock-up. On early Friday, Nesar hanged himself in the bathroom of the lock-up.

Police said he tore a blanket and used it to hang himself.

His family members have alleged that he was killed in the lock-up. The police had arrested Ansari on August 20 and not produced him in court.

Nesar has had no criminal record.

Police however have refuted the family”s allegation.

Senior police officials have started a probe in the incident.
