Hyderabad: Representatives of Human Rights Forum (HRF), National Alliance of Peoples’ Movements (NAPM), Peoples Campaign Against Politics of Terror (PCPT) and Civil Liberties Monitoring Committee (CLMC) have demanded the immediate release of Moulana Abdul Qavi, a Hyderabad-based Islamic theologian, who was picked-up by the Ahmadabad Crime Branch (Gujarat) police from Delhi airport on March 24, and order a thorough and fair investigation into the case.
Addressing the media at NSS here today, Rama Krishna Raju, Jeevan Kumar, Adil Mohammed and others, said that the Moulana was arrested for his alleged role in the 2003 jihadi conspiracy or ISI conspiracy which was supposed to be hatcvhed by Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba and Jaishe-e-Mohammad to avenge the 2002 Godhra riots.
They said Moulana Abdul Qavi is a respected religious thinker and the rector of Jamia Ashraf Uloom of Hyderabad and he has written several religious books. He was picked up in a very arbitrary manner and the Ahmadabad police had violated all laid down legal norms like serving a warrant, informing the kith and kin about the arrest and giving him a chance to talk neither to his acquaintances nor to his community. The arrest was unwarranted and arbitrary, as he was never informed about the case. (NSS)
