Aligarh, April 14: “We cannot pay the debt of this institution even if we have to pay this with our lives”, said Mr. Abdul Ghafoor Danish, an AMU alumnus while expressing his feelings for his alma mater, the great historic Aligarh Muslim University. He was addressing the Silver Jubilee Alumni Reunion of MBA 1988 Batch at the Department of Business Administration of AMU.
Danish, who lives in Jeddah city of Saudi Arabia, said it was a great opportunity to meet his old friends after a gap of twenty five years. He said that he had received more than two thousand e-mails and phone calls to attend the alumni reunion and he felt that it was worth attending.
Twenty two students of MBA 1988 Batch met together and reminisced the good old days and paid a highly emotional rich tribute to their benefactor teachers Prof. Najmul Hasan and Prof. S. M. Uzair who had already left for their final abode several years ago. They also missed their friends Saeed Chhatari and Iqbal Nadir Zaidi who had bid farewell to the finite world.
Addressing the Silver Jubilee Alumni Reunion, Vice Chancellor, Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Zameer Uddin Shah said that he was feeling happy while welcoming the old boys of this institution as they were ideal for the youngsters and an example to emulate and succeed in life. He said that he was trying to take this University to number one position in the country by bringing a positive change in every sphere of campus life. General Shah said that residential facilities were being upgraded and special focus was being laid on improving the quality of food served in the dining halls. He said that sanitation and quality of food was his among his priorities and several changes had already been brought into effect such as use of Roti-maker machines etc.
The Vice Chancellor announced that very soon University would have a unit of Kendriya Bhandar in its campus and dining halls will be supplied with the better quality food grains in subsidized rates. He said that he had contacted prestigious meat factories to supply good quality meat for dining halls. He said that special focus was also being given on improving the sports facilities as he considered sports essential for all round development of the students’ personality. He said that he has planned to construct residential halls for more than two thousand boys and girls in next two years.
General Shah urged the alumni of this University to extend cooperation to facilitate the students of this University with best living and academic conditions. He said he was committed to ensure discipline in the campus for ensuring better academic ambience in the University and did not mean to punish the students just for the sake of punishment.
The Vice Chancellor expressed concern the J. N. Medical College and said that a five time increase in the annual grant of JNMC had been made while, on the other hand, he was making efforts to upgrade the Management Faculty upto the status of Indian Institute of Management. He expressed happiness that a distinguished alumnus of the University, Mr. Amir Ahmad was helping the University to develop a large Management Complex.
Earlier, welcoming the guests, the Convener of the programme and an alumnus of the same batch himself, Prof. Waleed Ahmad Ansari said that twenty two alumni participated in the Reunion who are highly placed and serving as a distinguished member of the society. Prof. Jawaid Akhtar presented them their enlarged photographs that they had pasted on their admission forms twenty seven years ago. Prof. Kaleem Mohammad Khan reminisced their activities during the final year excursion tour to Nainital.
The Chairman, Department of Business Administration, Prof. M. Israrul Haque felicitated the alumni with mementos. Former Dean of Management Faculty, Prof. Azhar Kazmi was also present on the occasion. All the teachers and students of Business Administration extended their full support to make the programme a grand success. The Alumni who participated in the Reunion included Deshbandhu, A. A. Vaziri, E. A. Hazarika, KHwaja Furqan, Nehal Singh, Rajiv Dutt, Ibrahim, Sandeep Khurana, Sheeraz, Somesh Raizada, Sunil Sharma, Saad S. Haq and Tab Siddiqui.
