New Delhi : The Supreme Court on Tuesday referred to a seven-judge Constitution Bench the issue of minority status for Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) – three years after the NDA government sought to withdraw the Centre’s appeal against an Allahabad HC verdict that it was not a minority institution. A three-judge bench headed by Chief  Justice Ranjan Gogoi referred the matter to the larger bench  for defining the parameters for grant of minority status to educational institutions.
