Lucknow, May 19: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav today handed over the probe into the death of Khalid Mujahid to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). A press communication from the office of the chief minister says the CM took the decision on the demand of the family of Mujahid.
However, repeating the version of the police, the CM’s statement says: “Khalid Mujahid was an accused of the 23rd Nov. 2007 serial blast. Along with other co-accused he was taken to Faizabad court for appearance yesterday. While returning to Lucknow, he fell ill near Ram Sanehi Ghat in Barabanki and on way to hospital, he died.”
The CM had yesterday ordered a high-level enquiry by Home Secretary and ADG. The judical inquiry of the death his being conducted by chief judicial magistrate, Faizabad.
However, family members and rights groups have alleged he was killed through torture, he did not die of heart attack. Mujahid’s arrest was confirmed as fake and illegal by the government appointed RD Nimesh commission, on the basis of which the Akhilesh Yadav government had filed a petition in the court to withdraw the terror case against him.
