US Kashmiri diaspora group decries India’s raids on civil bodies

Ankara: A major Kashmiri diaspora group has denounced recent raids by security forces on civil society groups in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir.

In a statement on Friday, the US-based World Kashmir Awareness Forum (WKAF) said the raids by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) are “politically motivated” and “seek to further muzzle Kashmiri voices.”

The agency last week carried out a series of raids on well-known human rights activists, journalists, educational and humanitarian aid organizations in Indian-administered Kashmir, as well as India’s capital New Delhi.

“We condemn the Indian government’s continued Hindutva fascist assault on the disputed region of Jammu and Kashmir. The Modi government seems to be bent on suppressing the voices of Kashmiris and anyone else who raises a finger against its settler-colonial agenda and blatant human rights abuses in the region,” said the World Kashmir Awareness Forum statement.

Several rights groups, including Amnesty International, urged India to halt the raids, which the NIA has said were conducted “based on credible information that the organizations have been using funding from India and abroad for secessionist and terrorist activities in J&K.”

“The Orwellian dragnet has also been cast on the most vocal civil society members and human rights activists and their associates,” added the forum statement, referring to the raids on the homes and workplaces of prominent human rights activists Khurram Parvez, the coordinator of J&K Coalition of Civil Society (JKCCS), and Parveena Ahanger, the chairperson of the Association of Parents of Disappeared Persons (APDP), as well as journalist Parvaiz Bukhari, who works for Agence France-Presse, among others.

The JKCCS and the APDP, the forum said, “have been at the forefront of extensive reporting on human rights abuses in Kashmir, including indefinite incarceration, torture, extra-judicial killings of political opponents, and the extensive impunity enjoyed by Jammu & Kashmir’s armed forces.”

“The Indian state’s new repressive measures may bring temporary silence among Kashmir’s besieged population and their supporters, but it will never buy their allegiance to India. Prolonging the settlement of the Kashmir dispute will bring peace neither to India nor to South Asia, and will prolong the unnecessary suffering of thousands of innocent civilians.”

The forum said the also raided the offices of aid and activist groups Athrout, GK Trust, Falah-e-Aam Trust, JK Yateem Foundation, Salvation Movement, J&K Voice of Victims, and the Delhi-based Charity Alliance and Human Welfare Foundation.

Disputed region

In August 2019, India scrapped the semi-autonomous status of Jammu and Kashmir, dividing it into two union territories.

Kashmir, a Muslim-majority Himalayan region, is held by India and Pakistan in parts and claimed by both in full. A small sliver of Kashmir is also held by China.

Since they were partitioned in 1947, the two countries have fought three wars – in 1948, 1965 and 1971 – two of them over Kashmir.

Some Kashmiri groups in Jammu and Kashmir have been fighting against Indian rule for independence or for unification with neighboring Pakistan.

According to several human rights groups, thousands of people have been killed in the conflict in the region since 1989.

  1. Kashmiris Need To THANK INDIAN DEMOCRACY, for the Avenues Of Popular Protests that Still Exist In Kashmir, unlike in PAKISTAN OCCUPIED KASHMIR & OCCUPIED BALOCHISTAN. where hundreds of thousands of Kashmiris and Baloch people have been slaughtered. .

But i guess, there are some unfortunate people who just don’t seem to realize how fortunate they are to be under the Ashoka Chakra, so to speak, for being nationals of India..!!!!

In India, worms like Masarat Alam Bhatti, Yasin Malik, Geelani etc have the privilege of chanting, “Meri Jaan Pakistan” and “Kashmir Banega Pakistan, while hoisting the Pakistani Flag without the Fear of being slaughtered; ……Do the same in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir or Balochistan, and you won’t live to see another day…

    — In Balochistan no such protests are possible because of the pakistani Military’s Draconian & Deadly Way Of Handling Popular Protests..
Since 1948, Balochistan has been occupied by Pakistan.. Time & again, people in Baluchistan have arisen against Islamabad, but none of them lived to see another day.

It’s not that there is any Dearth Of Such Leaders, But a climate of Fear Pervades Balochistan.

Baloch leaders do Raise Anti-Pak Slogans, and Burn the Dirty, Filthy Pakistani Flag, but that is only possible, if they are living outside Pakistan.

In Balochistan, Pakistan had Launched DRONE-ATTACKS in Mekran (Balochistan), during similar protests..(the Bhat protests in Kashmir, too happened around the same time).

Baloch people are dragged out of their homes and killed execution style.
Thousands of Protesters have been victims of Pakistan’s policy of Enforced Disappearances….!!

Had this Assholes Bhat, been in Pakistan and behaved the way he did, he would have disappeared from the face of Earth, just like many Baloch Leaders have literally Disappeared Forever……!!

(…….”Ghulam Mohammed Baloch & Lala Munir Baloch of Baloch National Movement & Sher Mohd. Baloch of Baloch Republican Party” – All Were Kidnapped, Tortured And killed Execution Style And Their Bodies Were Thrown From Army Choppers……..)

This is why India is not only the largest Democracy but the greatest as well…….
