New Delhi: Vice President M. Hamid Ansari has strongly condemned the heinous killing of innocent civilians in Assam as the violence unleashed by anti-talk NDFB(S) militants in the state spread on Wednesday to new areas with one person injured in Udalguri district where rebels fired at villagers and burnt houses.
Hamid Ansari on Wednesday has called for firm and urgent action against the culprits and also for an immediate end to this senseless violence. Expressing grief over the loss of precious lives, he conveyed his deep condolences to the members of the bereaved families.
Altogether, 72 people have been killed in the state since Tuesday as four attacks in two districts claimed the lives of 62 people, among whom were 18 children and 21 women.
Bodos are a microscopic minority in the so- called Bodoland areas but they want to become Majority by resorting violent ethnic cleansing since 1989. Bodo militant groups including NDFB (R), NDFB (P), NDFB (S), Ex-BLT and many other under-ground groups are active in the area because of indulgent attitude of the state as well as central governments.
Meanwhile, non-Bodo groups have staged a protest by lighting candles in the National Capital on Wednesday evening to highlight grim situation in violent-struck Assam.
