New Delhi: The St. Xavier’s College (Calcutta) Alumni Association will felicitate the former Vice President of India and an illustrious Alumnus of St. Xavier’s College, Hamid Ansari with the Global Xaverian Award for his outstanding contribution to public life. The Alumni Association will hold it’s the third National Meet ‘Looking Beyond-III’ on 16-18 November in the national capital.
Talking to Muslim Mirror, Sunil Singh, and Chapter Co-coordinator of North Zone told that St. Xavier’s College (Calcutta) is preparing for its Post Centenary Golden Jubilee (160 years) celebrations in two years from now. Alumni Association (SXCCAA) is a part and parcel of the Institution and takes part in the development process of the College as a humble effort to repay the debt to the Alma Mater, he added.
The Association has already organized five international conventions in different parts of the world and two National Meets in Goa and Jaipur.
He said ‘Looking Beyond-III’ of the St. Xavier’s College (Calcutta) Alumni Association will be a third national meet to be held on 16-18 November in New Delhi.’
On this occasion, former vice president Hamid Ansari, who is also one of the illustrious Alumni of St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata, will be felicitated with the Global Xaverian Award for his outstanding contribution to public life, he said.
The award will be presented to Ansari by the Principal, St. Xavier’s College and President, St. Xavier’s College (Calcutta) Alumni Association Rev. Fr. (Dr.) Dominic Savio, SJ at a befitting function on 17th November.
He said St. Xavier’s College has become an autonomous institution in 2006 which is marked as the best college by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) of the University Grants Commission,(UGC) having scored 3.77 on a scale of 4.
The college is epitome of Higher Education, run by the Jesuits, the largest Order in the Catholic Church in the world, has a rich tradition and history of academic and co curricular excellence, he added. Alumni Association also has nine International Chapters in Singapore, London, New York, Toronto, Melbourne and Dubai as well as four Zonal Chapters in North, South, West and North East zones of the country, apart from its mother chapter in Kolkata.
On the 18th morning, the All Chapters’ Meet will take place, where around 300 delegates coming from different parts of the country and abroad will meet to discuss the future course of action of the Alumni Association. The Conference will be inaugurated by Minister of HRD and ex CBI Director D R Karthikeyan, will be a special guest.
It has been a practice that in each of the International and National Conferences a Pledge is taken for Fund Raising Drive for one major developmental activityof the college and this time funds will be raised for construction of a new Academic Block of the Rural Campus of the College, situated at Raghabpur in District of 24-Parganas (South), West Bengal. There will be other Business Sessions during the convention on the various topics, including one on Communication and Governance – Digital and Beyond, which will be held by the CEO of MyGov Arvind Gupta.
Representing the performing arts, there will be a session with a Bollywood actress. Babul Supriyo will be performing in a musical programme on 18th Evening. There will be a showcase a Tete e Tete with the eminent Cricketer Kapil Dev and eminent Sports Journalist Gautam Bhattacharya, an alumnus.
The meet will be attended by, among many other eminent Xaverians, Justice (Retd) Pinaki Chandra Ghosh, and Member of the National Human Rights Commission, Dinesh Trivedi, and MP and ex Minister of Railways, SanjeevJaiswal IAS, and Municipal Commissioner of Thane, Ms Sanyukta Samaddar IAS, and OSD NitiAayog. Many CEOs and CFOs, social workers will be attending too.
