In a statement that rolled eyeballs all over, World Cup winning captain has said Allah was with them, during a nerve wrecking final at Lords.
When being quizzed if it was his luck in the mega clash as the contest went down to the wire, Morgan said: “We had Allah with us as well. I spoke to Adil (Rashid), he said Allah was definitely with us. I said we had the rub of the green (smiling).”
Dublin-born Eoin Morgan said the diversity in the England dressing room epitomises their team. Morgan’s men came up with a collective effort to beat New Zealand in the thrilling World Cup final at Lord’s on Sunday.
Eoin Morgan has praised New Zealand and reckons the Kiwis had a decent run in the showpiece event as they also outclassed the hot favourites India – in the first semifinal of the tournament.
Speaking at the post-match presentation, Morgan said: “They’ve been actually through a better tournament than we have. The fact a trophy is sitting here is, you know, like I mentioned, we got the rub of the green today,” Morgan said during the post-match conference on Sunday.
England were declared champions even after a tied Super Over due to the higher count of boundaries they had hit during the final. England were bowled out for 241 in chase of 242 after which the game spilled into the Super Over. England posted 15 and New Zealand ended up with the same score on the board. At the end of it all, there was jubiliation for the hosts and agony for the Black Caps.
