New Delhi, Jan 29 : Shops, business establishments and educational institutions remained closed in the Muslim-dominated cities across the country on Wednesday.
Responding to theĀ ‘Bharat Bandh’ call against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and the proposed National Register for Citizens (NRC) Dalits and Muslims organised pan India shut down.
Increased security measures have been put in place in the three states keeping in view the call for shutdown.
According to media reports, the call for Bharat Bandh was given jointly by Waman Meshram of Bahujan Kranti Morcha (BKM) and Maulana Sajjad Nomani of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) to protest against the controversial CAA-NRC.
At least 47 protesters were arrestedĀ during a `Rail Roko’ (train blockade) at Kanjurmarg station in Mumbai.
Two persons were killed and at least one person sustained injury in a clash over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in West Bengalās Murshidabad district on Wednesday, police said.
One person injured in the incident has been hospitalised, police said. Unofficial sources, however, put the injury figure at three.
There was complete shutdown in Muslim dominated area of major Indian cities like Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Chennai, and Delhi due to the shutdown call against the discriminatory CAA.
