Ata-ur-Rehman Wajdi, the former Ameer of Wahdat-e-Islami Hind, passed away this morning at Max Hospital in Dehradun. He was 88.
Ziauddin Siddiqui, the present Ameer of Wahdat-e-Islami Hind, has expressed deep concern, sorrow, and grief over the tragic death of Maulana Ata-ur-Rehman Wajdi. “He was a great pioneer and soldier of Tehreek-e-Islami. He dedicated his entire life and vast property to Tehreek-e-Islami and remained active for the cause of the movement until his last day. He never showed any weakness in his imaan and perseverance at any stage of life. He was a great preacher and orator of Islamic thought, delivering innumerable speeches throughout the country. He always demonstrated a higher level of Islamic ethics and manners through his character and activities,” Siddiqui said in a press statement.
Maulana Ata-ur-Rehman Wajdi endured the hardships of imprisonment during the emergency period and was also imprisoned for a long period in Gujarat. Yet, he remained committed to the ideology and morals that he always advocated for the betterment of humanity, said the statement.
In addition to his role as a leader, he was also a distinguished litterateur. His writings continue to be a source of inspiration for the new generation. He was dedicated to the ideological, intellectual, and moral training of the youth, an effort that will always inspire the present generation. He served in various capacities within Jamaat-e-Islami Hind for a long time, and as the Ameer of Wahdat-e-Islami Hind, he played a pivotal role in training and organizing the new generation intellectually and ideologically. His contributions provided stability to the intellectual and ideological foundation of Wahdat-e-Islami Hind, and he continued to work towards solving various Milli and national problems, he added.
Ameer Wahdat-e-Islami Hind suggested that associates of the movement perform funeral prayers in absentia and advised them to learn from the thoughts, steadfastness, and sacrifices of the late Maulana Ata-ur-Rehman Wajdi through general meetings.
Followers and well-wishers of Tehreek-e-Islami, especially those associated with Wahdat-e-Islami Hind, express their deep concern, grief, and sorrow over his death.
