Sharjeel Imam, Umar Khalid, and others are victims of political vendetta, should be released: M H Jawahirullah

Prof M H Jawahirullah, President of the Manithaneya Makkal Katchi has said that the Saket court has exposed the vindictive action of the Union BJP government by dismissing cases against students accused of riots during anti-CAA protests.

Jawahirullah requested that “the Union Government withdraw all other cases based on this court order and release them immediately.”

“Intelligence agencies must distinguish between dissent and insurgency. In this case, the intelligence agencies should have used technology or collected reliable intelligence,” he said.

Earlier, the Saket court acquitted Mohammad Qasim, Mahmood Anwar, Shajar Raza Khan, Mohammad Abusar, Mohammad Shoaib, Umair Ahmed, Bilal Nadeem, Sarjeel Imam, Asif Iqbal Tanha, Chanda Yadav and Safoora Zargar.

In this case, Sharjeel Imam was found not guilty. However, he will continue to languish in jail for more than three years because he was imprisoned under the harsh Unlawful Activities Prevention and Prohibition Act.
