Iraq-born Nadhim Zahawi was UK's finance minister late Tuesday after the resignation of Rishi Sunak.
Zahawi, who was the education secretary, was named by former Prime Minister Boris Johnson as the chief executive of the treasury.
He moved to Britain in the mid-1970s when his family fled the rule of Saddam Hussain. He worked worked with the Conservative party for a long period of time.
Zahawi ran in the 2010 general election as the Conservative Party candidate for Stratford-upon-Avon and won.
