The below-par electoral performance of the Narendra Modi-led BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls has seemingly displeased the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) significantly. Following a stern reprimand from RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, RSS leader Indresh Kumar criticized the BJP for its unsatisfactory performance in the elections. Kumar attributed the BJP’s poor showing to “arrogance.”
Speaking at an event in Kanota near Jaipur, Indresh Kumar remarked, “Those who did bhakti of Lord Ram gradually became arrogant. That party was declared the biggest party but was stopped at 241 by Lord Ram due to arrogance.”
In his first public address after the general elections, Bhagwat, during the valedictory session of the Karyakarta Vikas Varg in Nagpur, criticized the use of falsehoods and “vituperative language” during the election campaign. He stated that such discourse violated the expected decency of political parties. “Your opponent is not an adversary; he only represents a counter viewpoint,” Bhagwat emphasized.
Bhagwat elaborated on the qualities of a true sevak, noting that arrogance is not one of them. He highlighted that a true sevak maintains dignity and follows decorum in his work without claiming personal credit. “Only that person can be called a true sevak,” the RSS chief asserted. He also advised, “Be blessed with strength and modesty. Modesty comes from your religion and culture, which calls for non-violence after truth. It says have goodwill towards everyone.”
Many interpreted Bhagwat’s remarks as subtle yet pointed advice for the BJP to reconsider its approach and return to its foundational values. (with agencies inputs)
