New Delhi, March 21 Describing the coronavirus crisis in the country as a huge blow to the economy, former Congress President Rahul Gandhi slammed the Modi government over its preparations to combat the pandemic, saying “clapping” would not help as a huge economic package is needed to help the people.
In a tweet, Rahul Gandhi said, “Coronavirus is wreaking havoc on our fragile economy. Small, medium businessmen and daily wage workers are the worst affected. Clapping won”t help them. Today, a huge economic package is needed such as cash help, tax breaks and debt repayment. Take quick steps.”
The Prime Minister has appealed to the people to “clap” as a mark of gratitude towards the health workers.
Modi, during his special address to the nation on Thursday said people must come at their balconies or outside their doors at 5 p.m. on Sunday during the ”Janata curfew” from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and clap their hands or sound utensils for five minutes to thank those at the forefront of combating Covid-19.
