After the Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his concern about population explosion in his remarkable speech on Independence Day of India it really became a topic of debate for scholars, responsible researchers, writers and for those who observe it as one of the biggest problems. Many writers have been writing on the positive and negative effects of the population explosion on the society as well as on economy. Some of them regard that the population growth will lead to famine, poverty, starvation, disease, death and a number of bad effects on the society and economy. Some other people think that population explosion is a hurdle and a rock in the way of development of the country because we have limited resources for unlimited wants of the people.
such type of connotation was first given in 1798 by Thomas Malthus when world population was only 800 million that too much population growth too fast would overtake the earth’s resources and eventually lead to disease, starvation and death.
we have to analyse whether the population explosion is really a big matter of concern and a rock in the way of development of the country?
First of all, if we go through the history, we will find that the population of world earlier was very low in the comparison of today but the starvation and poverty were very high in those days. People were not even able to fulfill their basic needs of life because there was no much technological advancement for utilization of natural resources in their proper ways but now the condition is different. poverty is not like past days while the current world population is above 7 billion.
China has the highest population of the world but in present it has biggest sharing economics as well as is a highest exporter of the world because the country that has higher population ,it also has more innovative working people and it knows how to use their young minds to innovate new technologies to fulfill the wants and needs of the people, to solve their problems and to boost their economy. It shows that the population growth is not a big matter of concern but utilization of minds. Off course in India we are unable to use our young minds. We have lack of job opportunities and our young minds are free from doing anything because they do not find job opportunities. In this situation how can we make new technological advancement and research new alternatives for the solution of the problems of the people. If we control our population but if we do not use our young minds, we cannot boost our economy and can never be developed.
Another thing is that the population growth pressurize society to discover new technologies and to find out new methods and new alternatives to fulfill the needs of the day. Green Revolution is the best example that played a leading role in this regard, which was started to eliminate food shortage and to breed more productive rice and wheat crops. For this purpose, new agricultural Technologies and modern methods were discovered such as High Yielding Varieties (HYV) seeds pesticides fertilizers and many more. Therefore, the population growth also has positive impact and effect on society. So, we should search better and substantial solution for the problems and needs of the people.
The history is witness that the countries which have restricted population explosion or experienced a decline in its growth, have faced many social political and economic problems and other related crises. For instance, Japan restricted population growth and as a result it faced demographic challenges because of the decline of the population and it also experienced continuous decrease in the proportion of working-class people. Ultimately it had to repeal its earlier decision. Not only this is the matter of Japan but many other countries have been facing the demographic challenges because of decline in their population. Therefore, population control is not a healthy sign and it is not a solution for economic development of the country.
Beti Bachao beti padhao (save the daughter, educate the daughter) campaign was started in 2015 by Modi-led BJP government to generate awareness among the people about the girls and to improve gender-gap ratio. But the question is if we begin to control our population how we save our daughters and if the daughters won’t be saved then how they will be educated?
Population explosion is not a big issue and a matter of really concern. Better health facilities, strong economic plans, to uproot the poverty, to educate the children, to implement the Acts passed for social improvements, to provide job opportunities for youths in order to use young minds, to establish law and order ,to secure Federal and democratic character of the country ,to protect the rights of the people and to strengthen the supremacy of the people’s wills and to save independent character of judiciary, to advance judicial system for the disposal of speedy remedies, to assure justice and equality to all the people of India equally. These are the real and affecting issues which needed to be addressed rather than to control population explosion and to claim particular community responsible for this.
India is first trying to stabilize the population & it needs ‘Two child’ policy. It won’t change any demographic characters of society. I fully support ‘Two child’ policy.
It must be noted that if parents are not financially capable to provide food & good education to their children then they do not have any right to produce the child. You cannot leave your child’s future on Government.
Presently Muslim community has highest birth rate & hence they are contributing to India’s poverty. Muslim need a social leader to convince their community on population control & adopt ‘Hum do hamaare do’ policy.
Dear Secular Hindu,
But muslims are not responsible for the population explosion in India. Please don’t come the light of propaganda.
Muslims as per 2011 census only 14.7% i.e. approx 20 Crore from 130 Crore and remaining Non Muslims 110 Crore then tell me how Muslims are responsible for population explosion.
If your remove 20 crore then also 110 crore is not less population.
And if you remove 110 Crore then India will be left with only 20 Crore.
Please come out from this myth.

@Abdul
Around 30% of Indian population is below poverty & most of them are muslims. More than 50% muslim women are illiterate; Educational development of muslim children is too low because their parents produce uncontrolled number of children without bothering about whether they are capable to provide them good education. Since, lack of education, muslim youths turn to become criminals. Hence, I said that muslims are contributing a lot in Indian poverty & overall development.
Muslims have high rate of illiteracy, not because they produce uncontrolled children but this is only because government’s false claim about Muslim. Every govement spoiled Muslims. Their biased action are clear. And keep it in your that even Hindus in rural area are producing uncontrolled children there is no difference between them. Converting as criminal is not only the symbol of Muslims but Hindu too. Take the examples of Vikas Dubey ,is he a Muslim?
@Secular.
When Government does not educate, does not provide jobs, does not give subsidized housing, does not give even primary health care to Indian Muslims; levies exorbitant GST tax on every commodity you buy or use; then how are poor Muslims responsible for increasing poverty and economical mess in India?
Common sense anyone in this repeated Islamophobia and scare-mongering?
Educating children is the primary responsibility of his parents. If a muslim couple is not capable to provide good education then why do they produce a child. Hence we need 2 child policy irrespective of religion.
Indian political parties only want muslim votes but not care muslim community never develop muslim intensive area. Even than
Muslim give them vote
