New Delhi, May 16: While welcoming the announcement of Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde about setting up of fast track courts for the cases of Muslim youths held on terror charges, Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind (JUH) has urged the central government to implement the move in letter and spirit.
The central government has sought from all states the number of Muslim youths languishing in jails in connection with terror cases, Shinde had said on Wednesday while favoring fast track courts to deal with such cases.
In a press statement on Thursday, JUH general secretary and former MP Maulana Mahmood Madani said if the centre takes it seriously, this move can pave the way for justice and release of innocent persons. Citing past experiences and long pending promises made earlier by the government, Maulana Madani warned that it should not end up as mere election stunt which is just six months away. “Our suspicion on the government is not without reason, our experiences in past are very sour. Although the announcement of the government is a silver lining in a dark, mere announcement does not serve any purpose unless it is translated into action.” said Maulana Mahmood Madani.
He also demanded mechanism for rehabilitation of the acquitted persons and prosecution of officers involved in false implication of the youths. Invoking the compensation to Dr. Hanif by Australian government, he urged the centre to emulate the same for the acquitted who lost their best part of life in jail.
“The various courts including supreme courts have also directed the government to compensate them, “Maulana Madani said.
