Guwahati, May 19: The North East India Emarat-e-Shariah and Nadwatut Tameer, a socio-economic non-profit organisation, handed over scholarship to 14 students of Guwahati in a solemn function held at Islampur Madrassa in the city on Sunday.
Nadwatut Tameer is actively engaged since 1963 in activities such as promoting high standard of moral life, propagation of spiritual and value based education, and channelising the surplus wealth of the rich to the poor and needy in the community,
The organisations are also engaged in implementing the system of Kazi-e-Shariat to conduct Muslim marriages as per the shariat including several others socio religious and socio-economic activities. Late Maulana Abdul Jalil Choudhury was the founder and first Ameer-e-Shariath of East India Emarat-e-Shariah and Nadwatut Tameer and eventually succeeded by Allama Maulana Tayeebur Rahman.
Baitulmal (Zakat Fund) is the prime activity of the organisation in which it periodically distributes the donations made by the rich for the welfare of the poor in a systematic way. On the occasion of distribution of Baitulmal on Sunday, a scholarship amount of Rs 5,000 was given away as first instalment to 14 poor and meritorious students pursuing professional courses and higher education at Gauhati University, Regional Institute of Science & Technology and other institutions in the city.
At the same function, Sheikh Maulana Abdul Karim Laskar was appointed as Kazi-e-Shariat of Dispur Anchalik Emarat-e- Sharia & Nadwatut Tameer and the appointment letter was handed over to him by Maulana Shafikur Rahman, Central Secretary of Amir-e-Sharia & Nadwatut Tameer .
Total fund collected by North East India Emarat-e-Shariah and Nadwatut Tameer during the year 2012-13 is Rs 48,38,454 including the amount collected by Guwahati City Emarat-e- Shariah & Nadwatut-Tameer which is Rs 17,100.
Amount allotted for students’ scholarship is Rs 7,25,700, but due to insufficient number of applicants/students, an amount of Rs 1,50,000 only have been disbursed to needy students.
Hussain Ahmed Laskar, Secretary, Emarat-e-Shariah, Guwahati city; Ahmed Hussain, Head of Pragjyotish Group of Institutions; Mahbubul Hoque, Chairman ERDF; Alhaj Sadiqul Alam Hazarika, Jt Commissioner Taxes (retd) and Bahauddin Laskar, Chief Engineer PHE, Govt of Assam spoke at the function.
