Aligarh, May 24: Noted cardiologist and Chairman Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, New Delhi, Dr Ashok Seth, along with his wife Dr (Mrs) Poonam Seth, has donated a sum of Rs 15 lakh to the Aligarh Muslim University for setting up Smart Classrooms at its Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC).
Dr Seth, who is also an alumnus of the JNMC, has been instrumental in starting heart related surgeries in JNMC by providing necessary training to the medical and paramedical staff of the college.
AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor, while extending heartfelt gratitude to Dr Seth for his unrelenting cooperation and support, said that this monetary help will certainly go a long way in creating better academic ambience at the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College.
In the US/UK, it is common that alumni are approached to donate on a regular basis to their alma mater to enrich endowment and continue academic excellence of the places that alumni themselves attended and benefited from. Dr. Seth’s gesture is worth adopting nationwide. Presently, the state is negligent and businesses are more interested in profits. Sufferers are less advantaged students. The college education becomes a rich man’s prerogative. Indians would be better off by following Dr.Seth.
Small contribution to his Alma mater from Dr Seth – leading Cardiologist and Chairman of the prestigious Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, Delhi.
But still a good precedent nevertheless.
May be small in your eyes so become a bigger contributor by gifting one corner. Try to grow

Yes
In America, we have a saying, “any donation(s) from the mailroom (of a dime, 10 cents) to the boardroom (of a $1B (billion dollars), e.g. Gates (MS) is welcomed”. In my tax-exempt set-up, by just reminding them that the meetings they were attending (or were being conducted elsewhere in the organization) was worth at least $250/hour. It used to be up to them to support it, its school, including Sunday School, mundane (regular, parochial) school, other community functions. Further, in my donation definition, a nickel (5 cents) was as valuable as a penny, not to talk of $5. Being a chemist, in my turn to raise fund; I used to demo with two bills of five, one from me, one from my wife in my two hands. After this, you can imagine the result, “children used to empty their “piggy bank”, chairmen, CEO, COO, CFO sitting in the audience used to match day’s donation. Thank God, I used to meet the quota. If not, quietly, I used to add up from my personal resources. Readers/poster/replies, be creative. There are more ways to skin a cat. So there are several ways to donate in kind, in cash.
I confirm…Small contribution, but still a good precedent nevertheless !
I hope we realise the complete message behind the above statement….both the pros and cons..
Otherwise no problem Sir.
