New Delhi: In a move that reeks of insincerity and partiality, the Uttar Pradesh government has given its nod to withdraw 20 cases related to the Muzaffarnagar riots and a government order has been issued in this regard.
According to Muzaffarnagar administration, the documents related to these cases were forwarded to the District Prosecutor’s Officer and other departments concerned.
The withdrawal of cases in connection with the Muzaffarnagar riots started last year.
Interestingly, last year, BJP’s Muzaffarnagar MP Sanjeev Balyan had raised the issue with the CM ho had assured him to withdraw the Muzaffarnagar riots cases.
So far, Yogi-Adityanath’s dispensation has rolled back 74 of such cases.
The riots which swept Muzaffarnagar in 2013 claimed at least 65 lives and thousands were displaced. 400 people were accused of arson, assault and vandalism. 41 cases of murder, rape and rioting in Muzaffarnagar have ended in acquittal from the trial courts, with one sole case of murder of two Hindu youths ending in a conviction.
