Uttar Pradesh based cleric Maulana Tauqir Raza Tauqir Raza after the Jahangirpuri anti-encroachment drive announced that after Eid we will start a countrywide ‘jail bharo’ agitation.
Tauqir Raza said that there are just 10 days left for Eid and ‘jail bharo’ agitation will be carried out after that across the country. And those who love their country will be part of it.
“There are 10 days left for Eid. After that, we will start a countrywide ‘jail bharo’ agitation. Both Hindus and Muslims who love their country will be a part of the agitation,” Tauqir Raza was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
On Wednesday bulldozers razed down several concrete and temporary structures close to the mosque in Jahangirpuri, after communal violence broke out in the area.
However the Supreme Court during a hearing yesterday about Jahangirpuri Demolition drive, asked the Municipal authorities “Do you need bulldozers to clear stalls, chairs, tables, and boxes.”
The question was posed by a bench comprising of Justices L Nageswara Rao and B R Gavai to Solicitor General Tushar Mehta after he said the law permitted the removal of “stalls, benches, boxes, ladders”, etc, occupying public streets and footpaths without permission.
Mehta stated before court that there was no provision for notice to remove stalls, chairs, etc from footpaths and roads.
Despite the Supreme Court having stayed the demolition drive, the drive was carried out and the apex Court had to intervene twice to stop the drive after a petition was filed by Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind against the demolition.
The Supreme Court extended the status quo of the demolition drive for two weeks until further orders on the issue of demolition drive in the Jahangirpuri area and said it would take a serious view of an alleged violation of its order even after the NDMC mayor was informed.
