The Wellcome Trust/DBT India Alliance
The Wellcome Trust/DBT India Alliance (India Alliance) was officially launched on 9 September 2008 and registered as a charitable trust in India. The organization is an equal partnership between the Wellcome Trust (UK) and the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology (Government of India).
The Wellcome Trust is a global charity dedicated to achieving extraordinary improvements in human and animal health. It supports the brightest minds in biomedical research and the medical humanities. The Wellcome Trust was set up in 1880 by Sir Henry Wellcome (1853-1936), a renowned businessman, collector and philanthropist of his time.
The India Alliance is its first venture internationally where it has partnered with the Government to build capacity not only by providing funding for science but also by training a Grants unit that follows internationally recognized processes.
