Army forced Muslims at Pulwama mosque to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’, says Mehbooba Mufti

by Muslim Mirror Staff

Mehbooba Mufti, the former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), alleged on Saturday that soldiers belonging to the Army’s 50 RR unit entered a mosque in Pulwama and forced the Muslims present there to chant ‘Jai Shree Ram’.

The leader of the PDP described the action as “an act of provocation” and urged Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai to launch a thorough inquiry into the incident.

Mufti tweeted, “Shocked to hear about army troops from 50 RR storming into a mosque at Pulwama & forcing muslims inside to chant ‘Jai Shree Ram’. Such a move when Amit Shah is here and that too ahead of yatra is simply an act of provocation. Request Rajiv Ghai to immediately set up a probe.”

The Army’s response to the allegation was not immediately accessible or available for comment.

Earlier, in April, Mehbooba Mufti alleged that local individuals had been detained and subjected to torture prior to the G20 event in Jammu and Kashmir. She compared the situation in Jammu and Kashmir to the notorious Guantanamo Bay detention facility, stating that the conditions were even worse.

Mufti claimed that since the preparations for the G20 event commenced in the region, numerous local men had been arrested. It’s worth noting that one of the G20 events took place in Srinagar city in May.

  1. If the news is true, which I am sure is not, then it may be very much detrimental for the unity in our armed forces. The matter must be inquired into and dealt with in all seriousness.
