The Rajasthan High Court has issued a directive for yoga guru Ramdev to appear at Barmer’s Chohtan police station on October 5, 2023, for questioning in connection with an FIR against him. The FIR alleges that Ramdev hurt religious sentiments with his remarks made at a religious event in Barmer on February 2, 2023.

Justice Kuldeep Mathur, while hearing a criminal miscellaneous petition filed by Ramdev seeking the quashing of the FIR, extended the stay on Ramdev’s arrest until October 16, 2023. The court’s directive instructs Ramdev to cooperate with the Investigating Officer and appear as and when called for interrogation.

In its order, the court stated, “The petitioner is directed to appear before the Investigating Officer for interrogation on 05.10.2023 at 11.30 am. The petitioner is further directed to appear before the Investigating Officer as and when called by him for interrogation.”

During the previous hearing, the court had stayed Ramdev’s arrest and had directed him to appear before the investigating officer for interrogation on or before May 20, 2023, which he failed to do.

The FIR against Ramdev was filed at Chohtan police station in Barmer on February 5, 2023, by Pathai Khan. Khan accused Ramdev of making deliberate remarks against Muslims that incited hatred and upset religious sentiments. Khan’s complaint alleged that Ramdev’s comments were intended to foster animosity and hatred towards Islam, causing anguish to millions of Muslims.

The court has requested the government counsel to produce the case diary on October 16, 2023, as part of the ongoing legal proceedings.
