New Delhi– On the eve of a high profile ceremony to lay foundation stone on the site where once stood Babri Masjid, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has issued a statement reminding the world of the injustice done to the Muslim minority in India. “The Supreme Court of India is the highest palladium of justice in our country. We have no option but to accept the judgement. However, we will definitely say that it was an unjust and unfair judgement” that handed over the land to “the people who had placed idols in the mosque in a criminal manner and were party to its criminal demolition,” said Maulana Wali Rahmani, general secretary of the AIMPLB.
Maulana Rahmani’s statement refers to November 9, 2019 judgement of the Supreme Court which, despite accepting that the placement of idols in Babri Mosque on December 22, 1949 and demolition of the mosque on December 6 1992 were illegal acts, ruled that the mosque land should go to a trust whose job would be to build a Ram temple. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is arriving at Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh on August 5 to oversee “bhoomi pujan” (foundation laying) for the said temple.
The Personal Law Board is a leading organization of Indian Muslims to protect their legal and constitutional rights. Rahmani explained the position of the disputed site. “In the eyes of the Islamic Shariah, at whichever place a masjid is established it remains a masjid there till eternity. Hence, Babri was a masjid, is a masjid and shall InshaAllah remain a masjid.’
Rahmani said the Supreme Court judgement of November last year repudiated its stand on the mosque. “It has been our position that that the Babri Masjid was never built by demolishing any mandir or any Hindu place of worship. Supreme Court of India has also affirmed our position in its judgement. The Supreme Court also said that the remnants found after the excavation carried out below the site of the Babri Masjid belonged to some 12th century structure, that is 400 years before the Babri Masjid was constructed, which means that the masjid was not built by demolishing any mandir,” he added.
