Tejasvi Surya, who is infamous for his anti-Muslim remarks, has been made the national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s youth wing. He is a part of the new team announced by the Hindu nationalist party.
He is considered a fiery speaker. He was elected as the Member of Parliament in the 2019 general election from the Bangalore South constituency.
On Arab women
Surya had come to light in connection with a tweet, in which he made a derogatory remark against Arab women. Several Arab nationals had expressed concerns on his remark.
@PMOIndia Respected Prime minister @narendramodi India's relation with the Arab world has been that of mutual respect. Do you allow your parliamentarian to publicly humiliate our women? We expect your urgent punitive action against @Tejasvi_Surya for his disgraceful comment. pic.twitter.com/emymJrc5aU

Surya had linked Islam with terrorism. In a tweet shared on 26 July 2015, he said, “In short: true terror has no religion. But terrorist definately has a religion and in most cases, it’s Islam.”
On anti-citizenship law protestors
Surya had tried to villify the people who were protesting against India’s Citizenship Amendment Act, which critiques believe is a part of the plan to strip Muslims of their citizenship. In December 2019, he said that people who own puncture repair shops on the roadside and illiterates are opposing the act without understanding it.
He is considered one of the stern supporters of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and believes that any form of opposition to Modi amounts to sedition.
During a speech in March 2019, he had said, “If you are with Modi you are with India. If you are not with Modi, you are with anti-India forces”.
Commenting on Surya’s appointment as the national president of BJP youth wing, anti-caste activist Susheel Shinde said that BJP has rewarded Tejasvi Surya. “He who spreads more hatred will get such a big post,” he wrote in a tweet.
