Book on ‘Contribution of Muslims in Kannada literature’ released by Vidhana Parishad Speaker Basavaraja C.Horatti

Basavaraja C.Horatti, Hon’ble Speaker of Vidhana Parishad of Karnataka Government has released a new book in Kannada, Kannada Sahityadalli Muslim Samvedane which means ‘Contribution of Muslim Writers to Kannada Literature’. The book was released at a colourful function at the  ‘Cochin Kannada Cultural Festival 2023’ which was  promoted by joint auspices of Kannada Sangha Cochin, Kasaragod District Kannada Journa lists Association, Karnataka Border Area Development Authority,  and Karnataka Working  Journalists Association. Kannada speaking masses in Ernakulum and various parts of kerala and Karnataka attended the festival in large.   The convention featured symposium, many cultural programs and a parade.

The writer of the book Udinoor Muhammad Kunhi hails from Udinoor which is located in Trikaripur Panchayat of Kasaragod district. The book was published by Kairali Prakashana, Subbaiyakatte, located at Kudlmerkala in Kasaragod District, Kerala State.

The book suggests that the rise of Muslim writers in the Kannada language began with the writing and singing of folk songs called Tatwapadas, which are part of the Vachana literature in Kannada. prominent among them were Guru Qadari Peera, Shishanala Sharif, Motnal Hasan Saab, etc in the 19th century. and the tradition of literature continued till the present day when major literary works were written in modern Kannada literature by many like K. S. Nisar Ahmed who is called Nityotsava Kavi, Boluvaru Muhammad Kunhi. , Fakir Muhammad Kat’padi, Rahmat Tarikare, BM Hanif, Sarah Abubakar. Banu Mushtaq, K. Sharif and many more. More than 50 leading Muslim writers are featured in the book. the book contains a brief history of Kannada literature, literary contributions of ancient and modern Muslim writers, Muslim women writers and many more. Prof. Baraguru Ramachandrappa, one of the renowned Kannada writers, has written the foreword to the work. Former head of Kannada Sahitya Parishad, Dr. Manu Baligar has wrote the foreword.

Ravi Naikapu, a prominent Kannada journalist and writer from Kasaragod, introduced the book. Kannada Sangam Cochin General Secretary Srikanta Anavatti welcomed the gathering Dr. Somashekhar IAS, Chairman Border Areas Development Authority chaired by Karnataka Govt. Karnataka Working Journalists Association President Shivananda Tagadoor delivered the welcome speech. Sri Sri Madiwala Rajayogindra Swami of Belgaum delivered the benediction address, former Kerala Government Minister K. Babu,  Kannada literary personalities like Radhakrishnan Uliathadka, Hamsa Malar, Mrs. Parinita Ravi, Dr.Sadanada Perla, President of Kasaragod Kannada Journalists Association Abdul Rahiman Subbaiyakatte, Founder of Kasaragod Kannada Bhavan Vaman Rao Ran Bakel , Sandhya Teacher, Badruddin K Mani Public TV and many other notables personalities attended the session.
