Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Member of Parliament Danish Ali has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, drawing attention to the use of “unparliamentary language” by BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri during a special session of Parliament. Ali has called for punitive action against Bidhuri and requested security for himself due to the threats he has received following the incident.
In his letter to the Prime Minister, Danish Ali expressed his concern over the escalating situation since September 21, 2023, which has raised questions about the decorum and democratic functioning of the esteemed House. He wrote, “In your capacity as the Leader of the House and the Prime Minister of our great nation, I trust that you would find it deeply concerning that Shri Ramesh Bidhuri, Hon’ble MP, resorted to using unparliamentary and abusive language.”
Ali further urged the Prime Minister to make a public statement condemning Bidhuri’s behavior and reaffirming his commitment to maintaining the highest standards of parliamentary proceedings. He believes such a statement would reassure the entire country.
“I request that accountability should be fixed at the earliest on the reprehensible conduct of Shri Bidhuri and he should be suitably punished so that no one can repeat such an act ever in the House,” Ali stated in the letter.
Regarding his safety concerns, Ali implored the Prime Minister to strengthen the security arrangements around him due to the threats he has received. He highlighted the threats, including one issued by Bidhuri on the floor of the House and subsequent threats from various sources.
Describing the sequence of events leading to the altercation, Ali explained that he had objected to Bidhuri’s inappropriate language against the Prime Minister, which seemingly led Bidhuri to react strongly. Bidhuri began making offensive attacks against Ali, labeling him ‘aatankwadi (terrorist)’ and ‘ugrawadi (extremist)’ while also verbally threatening him and expressing his intention to confront Ali outside the House.
Ali also countered claims made by certain members that he had provoked Bidhuri, clarifying that the provocative remarks were made by Bidhuri during his address.
In addition to the letter, Danish Ali attached copies of threatening messages he received, suspected to be orchestrated by certain individuals.
The matter involving Bidhuri’s use of objectionable words against Ali during a discussion on the success of the Chandrayaan-3 mission has been referred by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to the Privileges Committee. Opposition leaders have called for stringent action against the BJP MP.
The incident has garnered attention in Parliament and the media, with the demand for accountability and a commitment to parliamentary decorum at the forefront of the discussion.
