Crisis brings rivals together: Pak offers of support puts jingoist media in a tizzy

By Syed Zubair Ahmad

World has finally woken up to send assistance to India as the country struggles to ramp up emergency medical assistance to its fragile healthcare system

New Delhi: Hate-mongers must be suffering from a tinge of pain to learn that Pakistanis are urging their government to lend support to India as it is struggling to ensure basic medical supplies like oxygen, ventilators to the hospitals swamped by coronavirus patients.

While promises of medical aid are pouring in from across the globe, the words of support from neighbouring rival Pakistan might have ‘amazed the jingoist media’ which keeps “offering anti-Muslimism round the clock,” said a television journalist, requesting anonymity.

Pakistan is sending ventilators and other emergency medical assistance to India to help the country fight the shortage crisis. Notably, hashtags like #PakistanstandswithIndia, #CovidSOS and #IndiaNeedsOxygen were trending on Pakistani and Indian Twitter on Saturday. Pakistan PM Imran Khan expressed solidarity with India, tweeting “I want to express our solidarity with the people of India as they battle a dangerous wave of COVID-19. Our prayers for a speedy recovery go to all those suffering from the pandemic in our neighbourhood & the world. We must fight this global challenge confronting humanity together.”

According to PTI, the Foreign Office in a statement said Pakistan was ready to send specific items quickly once the modalities were worked out.

However, India has not responded official anything of the sort

Further, Pakistan-based Edhi Foundation wrote a letter to PM Narendra Modi, stating that they want to send a fleet of 50 ambulances to assist the country in fighting the coronavirus crisis.

“Certain sections still smell a rat,” said a journalist with an Urdu daily, indicating the RSS statement cautioning that “anti-India forces may exploit” the crisis. He concludes: “Not only Pakistan, a mere sight of Indian Muslim serving the needy frighten them. Perhaps, these people don’t know how a human heart works.”

Meanwhile, India’s close allies United States, United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia have come forward to send medical assistance with Washington saying that it was working to immediately send medical aid including rapid diagnostic testing kits, ventilators and personal protective equipment soon. While UAE has announced sending a huge shipment of oxygen concentrators, Saudi Arabia has sent a large number of oxygen generators.

European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen said he was “pooling resources to respond rapidly to India’s request for assistance”. The United Kingdom, France, Germany and Russia also promised rapid support. China too said it would help India and had been in talks of Indian authorities.

  1. It’s heartening to know that Pakistani people, social rights organisations and Imran Khan govt are offering medical aid along with kinder words to India. We too offered good words to Pakistan during crisis, but they lost in the air due to ugly, uncouth hate-monger media which was cursing the neighbouring nation with slug like “Pakistan marega corona ki maut”.

  2. NO need. Let the Hindus fight covid with their vedic mumbo jumbo animal feces medicine.

I welcome Hindus paying the price for their terrorism against on-Hindus.

    • Nonsense. This is shocking. Before uttering such words, think if someone dies, he is not alone. He/she could be father/mother of someone; brother/sister or son/daughter of someone.

      • @Quamar Ashraf,

You’re a confused. Humanity is for humans, not uncivilized animals. Have you forgotten Hindus lied claiming Muslims brought covid to India? They have committed the worst crimes against Muslims and continue to oppress Muslims in India and Kashmir, the victims have fathers, mothers and other loved ones also. Hindus always celebrate the killing, murder, rape and other oppression of Muslims, so I’m not going to shed tears for them.

I don’t care about them at all, let them die( the same thing Delhi police said about Muslim protestors)they have no one but themselves to blame for their cruelty, hatred and criminality they unleashed against others. It’s Karma for them.

  3. Well done Pakistan-Edhi Foundation. This is the best humanitarian help to give to the enemies. In the time of crisis we have to see them as humans sufferings not the enemies. Hope the help is sent right away. May Allah Bless you all and keep the Virus away from all of us. //Salaam/peace/ Ramadaan Mubarak//A convert to Islam-from Ismailism cult.//www.Insideismailism.

  4. In the name of Allah the most gracious the most merciful, never judge any one by their colour, race or religion. Only allay is the 1 and only judge. Help everyone in the crisis who ever is afflicted by it. Pakistan zindabad, good to hear the neighbouring country is in the help to India. They are in need of help and help them as you whould need help if you were in there position. My condolences to those loved ones in the pandemic. May Allah guide and help all the humans in this condition. Wake up shed tears for each other not blood. We all got to go one day and keep good ties and bond for one another. May Allah protect and guide us all.
Allah is the greatest, allahu akhbar.
