New Delhi: The Delhi government has sparked criticism as it has not mentioned ‘minorities’ in an advertisement given in a newspaper about scholarship schemes.

The advertisement invites applications for scholarship schemes from students belonging to SC/ST/OBC categories of Delhi for the year 2020-21.

”The issue is that this public notice used to also mention minorities every year. But the notice of this year did not mention the minorities,” former chairman of Delhi Minorities Commission Zafarul Islam Khan said.

He said that he informed the current chairman of the Delhi Minorities Commission (DMC). He said that he does not know the reason behind the exclusion of the minorities from there.

Delhi government’s portal , where students are asked to apply for the scholarship, is flashing a message which asked minority students to contact the Revenue Department of Delhi government for the scholarship.

“Since the minority welfare related work are dealt by the Revenue Department. Hence, minority students are requested to contact Revenue Department and see the Revenue Department website,” read the message.

On the website of Revenue Department, there is a link of the public notice under ‘What’s New’ section titled “Instruction for applying scholarship schemes or Fee reimbursement for minority students or Instruction for institutes Guidelines 2021”.

The notice, which explains the eligible criteria for acquiring scholarship, asks the minority students to apply for the scholarship on e-district portal but it did not talk about the deadline for applying it. The notice was updated on February 4 this year.

The public notice put out in the newspaper by the SC/ST Welfare Department for the SC/ST and OBC students mentioned the deadline for scholarship application till April 30. And it asked to apply on the website www.edistrict.delhigovt.nic.in.

  1. The revenue department has been hardly issuing Income certificate to minority applicant .
I have applied last month on 19 th March 2021 and till date it’s showing that decision is pending and the last date is 30th April 2021.

  2. I was under the impression that Muslim Mirror and the Muslim Community of India were powerfully lobbying for a “secular” government in India.
