Hyderabad, May 4: A research scholar of English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) Mohd. Mohiuddin committed suicide by hanging on Thursday. Mohiuddin (29), a Ph.D. scholar hanged himself in the mosque close to APSRTC hospital in Tarnaka area where he was living for past three days. He left a suicide note in which he blamed none for his death. The note stated that he was not eligible to live and did not want his sister to be informed about his death, the mobile numbers of his brother and another friend were written on the note.
Mohiuddin had submitted his thesis in July last year and returned to his village, Srivelli puttoor in Virudnagar district, Tamil Nadu. He came back a few days ago for his viva scheduled to be held on Thursday noon, and had been staying in the mosque. Another EFLU student Abdul Raheem, the police said, had last seen Mohiuddin late on Wednesday night at the mosque and went back to his hostel room on EFLU campus.
A madrasa student saw the scholar’s body hanging on Thursday morning and informed the elders. The body was later shifted to the Gandhi Hospital by the police where the post-mortem was conducted; EFLU authorities sent the body to Chennai in a flight. The suicide comes exactly two months after Mudassir Kamran, a Kashmiri PhD scholar at EFLU, hanged himself in a hostel room here in Hyderabad.
Meanwhile, various students associations have protested the decision of the authorities to send Mohiuddin’s body from the mortuary to the airport directly without giving an opportunity to the students to pay homage to him. The student groups took out a candlelight rally to pay homage to the scholar and urged the university administration to come out with the facts relating to student’s death.
