A joint meeting of leadership of the All India Agricultural Workers Union, Bharatiya Khet Mazdoor Union, All India Agricultural and Rural Labour Association, All India Samyukt Kisan Sabha, and All India Agragami Krishi Shramik Union, held at Ajoy Bhawan (central office of BKMU).The meeting resolved to strengthen the ongoing peasant movement and denounced brutal and inhuman attack on peacefully protesting farmers at Tikonia in Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh. A convoy of vehicles associated with BJP’s Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra Teni, his son Ashish Mishra Teni, and other goons ran over several farmer protestors and killed them.
Farmer leaders said instead of taking action against the culprits, the Central and state government is trying to save the criminals. The unions demanded the arrest of the son of the Minister concerned, who is named in the FIR for murder and his resignation so that he cannot affect the implementation of justice.
At the same time there are efforts to communalize the whole incident by accusing protesting farmers as Khlaistanis, they alleged.
The meeting also expressed deep concern over the increase in attacks on dalits, tribals and minorities and ruling BJP’s push for Hindutva politics.
“In these conditions BJP is pushing its Hindutva politics and attacks on dalits, tribals and minorities are on increase. The meeting resolved to take up social and economic issues related to the lives of agricultural workers and start a united all India struggle against the neoliberal economic policies and divisive politics of Hindutva”.
All the organisations present in the meeting reiterate their resolve to continue their active participation in the ongoing struggle until the victory is achieved.
Meeting also decided to launch a united struggle against the anti-people policies of the Modi government which are making the lives of agricultural workers and common people difficult. The incomes of people are shrinking and the unemployment is growing resulting in decreased purchasing power of people. At the same time the price hike which is the result of market oriented economic policies of BJP adding more misery to the lives of people. People are on the verge of starvation. MNREGA which can help by providing employment in the villages is under attack by the Government which has recently introduced caste based allocation of funding against the universal and demand based nature of the law.
Millions of the landless people are waiting for their share of house site land but policies of the Government are displacing them from the land where they are living for years. The changes to the Forest Conservation Act are nothing but an effort to revert the gains of the Forest Right Act.
Really ?
I thought they were protesting Pan-India since last year.
So they admitted that till now protest was only by middlemen from Punjab, Haryana and Western UP.
Cry baby!!
