In a letter addressed to Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Radha Raturi, 83 retired senior civil servants, including former bureaucrats, police officers, and diplomats, expressed deep concern over the recent disturbing developments in the state following the violence in Haldwani.
They urgently called for action to prevent further deterioration of the situation, provide relief to affected citizens, and ensure the safety of all residents while maintaining a neutral administration. Key demands include lifting the curfew, providing relief to affected families, compensating victims, and initiating an impartial judicial inquiry into the Haldwani incident.
The letter highlighted allegations of excessive force by authorities, displacement of families, and an increase in hate crimes, particularly targeting minority communities. Concerns were also raised regarding the administration’s conduct, including a hasty eviction operation and failure to enforce laws against hate speech and mob violence.
The signatories emphasized the need to uphold constitutional values and restore public confidence in the administration’s commitment to justice and the rule of law. They urged the Chief Secretary to take immediate action to address these issues and ensure the safety and security of all citizens, regardless of religious affiliation.
