New Delhi: Another case was registered against Bharatiya Janata Party’s Kerala unit chief K Surendran for bribing tribal leader C K Janu to contest election as a candidate of the National Democratic Alliance.
A court in Wayanad district directed the police to register the case on Wednesday. The court’s order was based on a petition filed by PK Navas, the state president of Muslim Students Federation (MSF), Indian Union Muslim League’s student wing.
The police have registered the case against the two under IPC Sections 171 E (punishment for bribery) and 171 F (punishment for undue influence or personation in elections) over allegations that Surendran paid Rs 50 lakh to Janu in two instances. CK Janu was named the second accused in the case.
Earlier, K Surendran was booked for threatening and bribing a namesake candidate to withdraw his nomination during 2021 state assembly polls. The complaint was filed by CPI(M) leader V.V. Rameshan, who had contested from Manjeshwaram constituency.
