Lucknow-based Islamic cleric Salman Nadwi has opposed the call to ban Popular Front of India (PFI). This comes in the wake of All India Sufi Sajjadanashin Council’s (AISSC’s) demand to disallow functioning of the PFI in India.

Nadwi said that if a few members of any organisaiton indulge in unlawful activities and there is an evidence on record to prove the same then action should be taken against them but this cannot be a ground to ban the entire organisation. He added that the same applies to organisations such as RSS, VHP and Bajrang Dal as well.

“It is not right to demand a ban on Jamaat-e-Islami, Tablighi Jamaat or the RSS, its branches, Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad just because some of their members are found indulging in cruelty or making unlawful remarks,” he said in a video interview uploaded on his Youtube channel.

According to media reports, a resolution was passed at an interfaith conference organised by the AISSC in New Delhi on 30 July, which demands imposition of a ban on the PFI.

Reacting to the media reports, Nadwi who was also part of the conference said that no such resolution was brought before him. He added that he attended the conference just to promote interfaith harmony. “I was not even aware that some resolution was to be passed,” he said.

  1. Maulana Salman Nadvi belongs to an illustrious family of internationally know Scholars and Freedom fighters. They have always promoted interfaith understanding and have fought for common causes alongside Hindu-Sikh-Christian-Bodhist countrymen. Their forefather,a freedom fighter and Scholar, popularly known as Sheikh ul Hind was exiled to Malta where he breathed his last. His opinion carries weight and must be adhered to.
